AI, Data & Privacy
Mixed - some data on-device, some in cloud
This robot uses a hybrid approach where some data is processed locally on the device and some is sent to cloud servers. The level of EU data protection depends on what data stays local versus what is transmitted. Sensitive data like camera feeds may be processed on-device while usage analytics go to the cloud. Review the manufacturer's privacy policy for specifics on what data goes where.
How to keep it private
With the Escape Pod or wire-pod, Vector operates fully offline with local voice processing, face recognition, and all core behaviors. Without Escape Pod, Vector requires cloud connection for voice commands (blue light indicates streaming). Facial feature data is always stored locally on the robot and never uploaded to cloud.
Digital Dream Labs Escape Pod ($99) runs on a Raspberry Pi (3B+ or 4) and replaces all cloud server dependencies. Wire-pod is a free, open-source alternative (github.com/kercre123/wire-pod) that provides equivalent functionality on any Linux or Windows computer. Both options use VOSK for local voice processing supporting 20+ languages.
Available privacy controls
Official $99 product that runs on Raspberry Pi, replacing all cloud dependencies with local processing
Free community-built server software (wire-pod) providing full offline operation for Vector 1.0 and 2.0
Facial recognition data stored only on the robot itself and never uploaded to the cloud
In cloud mode, audio is only sent to servers when the wake word is detected (indicated by blue light)
All data between robot and cloud servers is encrypted with signed authorized code
Escape Pod and wire-pod use VOSK speech recognition for fully offline voice command processing in 20+ languages
Purchase the Escape Pod ($99) or install the free wire-pod software for complete offline operation with zero cloud dependency. This is the gold standard for robot privacy. All voice processing, AI behaviors, and face recognition run locally. Wire-pod works on a Raspberry Pi, old laptop, or any Linux/Windows machine. With either solution, Vector never contacts external servers.
What this means for EU residents
Facial feature data stored locally on robot and not uploaded to cloud. Cloud connection used for voice processing when wake word detected (blue light indicator). Escape Pod product allows fully local operation without external servers. Customer data encrypted between robot and cloud.
